The fire brigade and lifeboat teams where dispatched in the early hours of this morning to tackle a fire on the Mumbles Pier.
It is believed that a rogue spark from a blowtorch may have started the fire with the winds working to ignite the pier structure.
Work was being carried out on the pier to build a new state of the art lifeboat station. At approximately 1am on Saturday 27th October 2012 a call was made to the emergency services requesting their assistance with the fire.
At this stage it looks like the main pier structure hasn’t been too badly damaged but further assessment will take place later today.
