Fire at Swansea’s Mumbles Pier

The fire brigade and lifeboat  teams where dispatched in the early hours of this morning to tackle a fire on the Mumbles Pier.

It is believed that a rogue spark from a blowtorch may have started the fire with the winds working to ignite the pier structure.

Work was being carried out on the pier to build a new state of the art lifeboat station.  At approximately 1am on Saturday 27th October 2012 a call was made to the emergency services requesting their assistance with the fire.

At this stage it looks like the main pier structure hasn’t been too badly damaged but further assessment will take place later today.

Did you take any pictures of the pier or would you like to comment on the pier in general?  Please use the comments below to let us know what the pier and subsequent fire means to you.

Can you identify this pier?

We’ve been contacted by a lady inVancouver Island, Canada, who has a picture of her Grandmother that was taken in 1917.  Here is the picture with the pier in the background and I’m looking for any information about which pier it could be.
