Southport Pier Article Added

I’ve added an article on what is often thought of as the first pleasure pier, Southport. Situated on Merseyside this pier was almost demolished in 1990 but thanks to a single vote the pier was saved and redeveloped.

Southwold Pier Article Added

I have added an article about Southwold Pier in Suffolk. This 21st Century pier is also used by the UK’s only surviving steamship.

Exmouth Pier - Cafe Plans

Planning was originally granted to develop a new cafe back in 2004 but the plans where never put into practice.

Some 4 years on developers FWS Carter & Son have confirmed that they will be creating “one of the views of Exmouth” from this new cafe which will be situated on the pier head.

Stuart Line Cruises will be moving their temporary tciket sales building after which the works can then begin.


Rowan Carter, of FWS Carter and Son, said: “We have had planning permission for several years, and now we feel the marina development has reached a level to support this cafe.

“It will have one of the best views in Exmouth, across to Dawlish Warren.”

Grand Pier Flies the Flag for 2012

The recently damaged Grand Pier at Weston Super Mare has taken a part in the olympic handover.

Ian Porter, chairman of the North Somerset council, raised the flag which is being flown to mark the London 2012 games.

Pier owners have confirmed that they will hold a memorial service on the fire damaged Grand Pier to celebrate the attractions 104 year life.

Last month fire tore through much of the pier destroying key attractions.

The inter-denominational service will take place on the 16th August and will commemorate the pier’s place in the history of English life and offer the Somerset town hope for the future.
